UNITE PRIVATE NETWORKS WINS 12-YEAR CONTRACT WITH LINCOLN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Partnership Critical to State’s Second-Largest District Recovering from Recent Catastrophic Fire

KANSAS CITY, MO – August 15, 2011 – Unite Private Networks (UPN) announced a twelve-year contract renewal to provide fiber optic network services for Lincoln Public Schools. The fiber optic network, designed and built by UPN for the district, includes over 90 route-miles of fiber optic cable, combining both aerial and underground elements. It provides critical bandwidth at speeds of GigE per location. The project is partially funded by the FCC E-Rate program.

The robust UPN fiber optic network easily supports the increasing operational and instructional demands incurred by the dramatic growth of Lincoln Public Schools (LPS). District officials attribute critical efficiencies to the fiber network, which enables expanded delivery of services without requiring a commensurate budget increase. The virtually unlimited bandwidth also enhances students’ educational experience by providing extensive leverage of online instructional content and applications.

“It is an honor to win this customer’s business for another twelve years,” said Rob Oyler, Chief Marketing Officer for UPN. “The predictable, fixed-cost nature of our fiber network lease makes a fiber optic network a viable option for school districts to exploit the benefits of limitless bandwidth. Renewing this contract is confirmation of our core value proposition.”

The exceptional customer service for which UPN is known was a crucial asset for LPS when a catastrophic fire destroyed the district’s primary data center in May, 2011. Within 48 hours of the disaster, the parties had resolved short-term and long-term recovery plans for network and data center services.

“We are banking our operational & instructional services on this network,” said Kirk Langer, Director of Technology for LPS. “We need a responsive, accommodating, knowledgeable partner — and that’s what we have in UPN.” For more detail on the district’s success with the UPN network, please see www.upnllc.com and click on the LPS Business Case Study.
