SoftLayer Deploys Global Crossing Solution to Meet Growing Demand for Virtual Data Center Connectivity

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced it has deployed 14 new 10 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) ports for SoftLayer, a global leader in cloud, dedicated and managed private hosting.

Global Crossing DIA connects enterprise networks to the Internet, enabling superior communication among employees, customers and business partners with on-demand scalable bandwidth for increased capacity whenever it is needed.

“At SoftLayer, our innovative virtual data center and hosting services depend on unsurpassed technology and technical execution to empower enterprises with global access, control and security,” said Ric Moseley, vice president of Network Engineering at SoftLayer.  “Global Crossing provides us with reliable, scalable and secure global connectivity that satisfies our customers’ IP services needs.”

Global Crossing is a Tier 1 Internet Service Provider (ISP).  The company’s single Autonomous System (AS) number translates to fewer data hand-offs for faster transmission, less down-time and greater productivity.  The Global Crossing network provides the highest levels of security through its precedent-setting National Security Agreement (NSA) mandated by the U.S. Federal Government.

“Our long and fruitful relationship with SoftLayer continues to deliver value to customers,” said Julie Masino, Global Crossing’s regional vice president for North America.  “We are delighted to be able to help SoftLayer provide customers with a superior Internet experience for their applications that can accommodate their business as it continues to grow.”

DIA also can be integrated with Global Crossing IP VPN (Virtual Private Network) or other types of transport services as one seamless offer from core to edge to reduce management load, total bandwidth requirements and expenses.
