Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center Selects Zayo to Support Federal Research

LOUISVILLE, Colo. – August 4, 2011 –Zayo has entered into a new multi-year agreement with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC), a high-performance computing and networking center. Under the terms of the agreement, Zayo will provide the PSC with optical network infrastructure, enabling it to support the escalating bandwidth needs of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA), located in Fairmont, West Virginia.

“When PSC initially formed a partnership with NOAA, it was clear the existing bandwidth capacity options weren’t sufficient for this project and we needed to partner with a major infrastructure provider,” said Wendy Huntoon, director of networking for PSC. “Zayo’s high-bandwidth capabilities can support our intense data collection and delivery processes, and they met our need to get the NOAA project up and running as quickly as possible.”

Zayo’s commitment to growing its fiber network to support high bandwidth applications aligns with the government and education sector’s scalable bandwidth needs.  Delivering a customized solution, PSC can support centers like the NOAA and the Environmental Security Computing Center (ESCC), the latest computing tool for studying and predicting major weather events such as hurricanes and tsunamis.

“By leveraging Zayo’s experience in the higher education and research community, we are able to deliver a unique and scalable solution for a major organization like PSC,” said Joe McCourt, vice president and general manager, East region of Zayo Networks. “The agreement with PSC and NOAA is an example of how we are expanding our network to key research computing centers.”
