Lightower Fiber Networks Opens Manhattan Office

Leading fiber network provider opens new presence in midtown to serve the most robust telecom market in the world

BOXBOROUGH, MA — May 31, 2011 — Lightower Fiber Networks, a leading metro fiber network and bandwidth service provider, announced that it has opened a new office at 505 8th Avenue in midtown Manhattan.  The office supports the increasing demand Lightower is experiencing from customers throughout the New York City and New Jersey areas.

“Lightower’s new office sits at the heart of the global business community in New York and it supports the growing demand we are seeing in the region,” said Rob Shanahan, CEO of Lightower.  “In the past six months, Lightower has added over 100 commercial buildings and hundreds of route miles of fiber backbone to our network throughout New York City and New Jersey.  Lightower offers customers the premier metro fiber network in the region.”

Lightower’s New York City area network offers fiber-based access to over 325 commercial buildings throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx, and New Jersey.  In addition, Lightower’s footprint extends up to the Hudson Valley and throughout New England.  With access to a total of over 2,400 commercial buildings throughout the Northeast, Lightower is one of the most densely built-out metro fiber providers in the country.

Lightower has rapidly expanded in the New York City area over the past several years to meet surging demand for fiber-based networking solutions.  Earlier this year, Lightower completed the acquisition of Long Island-based Open Access Inc. Late last year, Lightower completed the acquisition of New York City-based Lexent Metro Connect.  Most recently, the company announced the completion of a new network route across the Hudson River that offers diversity and a shorter route relative to traditional area routes across the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Lightower offers enterprises and carriers a complete suite of high bandwidth, low-latency networking solutions with end-to-end fiber connectivity.  Customers can connect between office locations, financial exchanges, liquidity centers, and other critical interconnection facilities.  Lightower’s fiber networking solutions include Ethernet, wavelengths, Internet access, SONET, dark fiber, and collocation.
