Hondutel and Laticom tap GENBAND services expertise and all-IP GENiUS platform for comprehensive delivery of advanced IP and multimedia services

Tegucigalpa, Honduras, May 18, 2011 – GENBAND, a leading developer of IP infrastructure and application solutions, today announced that Laticom, a US-based IP telecommunications and technology company, has selected GENBAND to enable the modernization and Internet Protocol (IP) transformation of Honduras’ nationwide communications network. Hondutel, the largest telecommunications company in Honduras, is responsible for the country’s telecommunications systems. Through a unique contract alliance approved by the Honduran Congress, Laticom will deploy and oversee Hondutel’s nationwide expansion of IP-based multimedia broadband services. Utilizing the GENBAND GENiUS™ platform, Hondutel will deliver advanced telephony, data, IP and integrated multimedia services to its customers.

Through Laticom, GENBAND is providing Hondutel the essential IP infrastructure for call control, session border control, applications, signaling, voicemail and traffic and policy management, all via the software-centric GENBAND GENiUS platform. GENiUS is the industry’s first all-IP platform capable of delivering all of these functions via industry standard, ATCA-based hardware with one common operating system and management system.

“We chose to partner with GENBAND for their unmatched expertise and unique ability to transform the network of Honduras with a unified, IP-based solution, said Juan Nelson, Founder of Laticom. “We are confident that the scale, flexibility and simplified network architecture enabled by the GENBAND GENiUS platform will significantly reduce Hondutel’s total cost of ownership. Upon completion of this groundbreaking initiative, Hondutel will be able to offer the citizens of Honduras cutting-edge communications services via one of the most advanced telecom infrastructures in the world.”

Within the Hondutel network, Laticom is deploying GENBAND GENiUS as the common platform for the majority of GENBAND products, which include GENBAND’s C20 Converged Softswitch for comprehensive call control; the A2 Converged Application Server for full featured telephony and multimedia applications; the S3 Session Border Controller with extensive security, policy enforcement and session management capabilities; and the P Series portfolio of Traffic and Policy Management solutions. The GENiUS platform is unique for its ability to provide several significant functions, such as international, long-distance and residential Class 5 functionality, as well as advanced business services such as unified communications and web collaboration, all from one common, unified platform.

“Working with Laticom and Hondutel to transform the nationwide telecommunications network of Honduras represents the ideal opportunity to exploit all of the benefits that IP infrastructure and applications have to offer,” said Charlie Vogt, President and CEO of GENBAND. “We are honored to support such a broad transformation project which will impact the resources and livelihood of so many throughout Honduras. Our GENiUS platform is perfectly suited to efficiently and cost-effectively unleash the essential IP-based functionality required to transform the communications capabilities in Honduras.”

As part of a phased Hondutel network transformation, GENBAND will begin transitioning switch locations in major cities that serve all international long-distance traffic, followed by local Honduras telecommunications traffic. GENBAND Global Services will be providing Hondutel best-in-class transformation services that include network design and planning, deployment, integration and testing, line and feature migration, and assistance with ongoing operations.

GENBAND’s world-class network transformation resources, tools and practices have enabled the transformation of 40 million lines across 14 vendor switch types.
