PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS: PAET), a Fortune 1000 company that provides advanced communication solutions to businesses nationwide, announced that it has selected the 138-year-old construction firm, The Pike Company, to build its planned 225,000 square-foot world headquarters in Downtown Rochester. The $55M project will serve as the first major build on the site of the former Midtown Plaza, which was also constructed by The Pike Company in 1962. The building will anchor the new Midtown Block and will sit on the southeast corner of Clinton Avenue and Main Street. PAETEC is scheduled to occupy its new headquarters in June of 2013.

Located in the heart of Rochester’s Center City, PAETEC’s headquarters is also planned to include retail space, a rooftop garden for public and private events, advanced technology for energy efficiency, and sophisticated exterior LED lighting effects.

“For well over a century, The Pike Company has been synonymous with both innovation and quality in Rochester,” said Arunas Chesonis, chairman and CEO of PAETEC. “Our goal has always been to use local talent and crews to build our new headquarters. With Pike alongside local architect Bergmann Associates, we have a great team leading the way for the revitalization of Midtown Plaza.”

The Pike Company, based in Rochester, New York, was founded in 1873 and has regional offices in Albany, Syracuse, New York City and Hartford, Conn. In addition to Midtown Plaza, the firm has constructed other iconic Rochester buildings including the Finger Lakes Racetrack and the original Rochester Savings Bank in 1928 which was later named the first historical landmark in the city.

More recently, the company build the vertical expansion of the Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and both the Global Village and Gordon Field House at Rochester Institute of Technology.

“We are thrilled to be working with PAETEC on this very exciting project,” said Tom Judson, chairman and CEO The Pike Company. “Rochester needs a vibrant and lively downtown, and we believe this project will continue the revitalization. It is an honor for Pike to once again be helping with the construction of Midtown.”
