US Signal Joins Telx Ethernet Exchange

Midwestern Fiber Optic Network Service Provider Joins Telx Ethernet Exchange in Chicago to Augment Wholesale Carrier Ethernet Services

New York, NY (March 21, 2011) – Telx®, a leading interconnection and colocation provider in strategic North American markets, today announced that US Signal, a leader in fiber optic network services in the Midwestern region of the United States, has joined the award-winning Telx Ethernet Exchange. Deployed within Telx’s downtown Chicago data center, US Signal will leverage the Ethernet Exchange to cost-effectively offer its Virtual Ethernet wholesale Ethernet services to a wider range of carriers in previously underserved locations. The Telx Ethernet Exchange reduces cost, time and complexity associated with establishing traditional network-to-network interface (NNI) connections, enabling US Signal to extend its service reach and maximize new business opportunities throughout the Midwest.

“Telx’s Ethernet Exchange gives us the ability to rapidly meet carriers’ increasing connectivity demands in areas that were previously challenging to reach,” said Trevor Bidle, vice president of engineering for US Signal.  “We find value in the strategic location of Telx’s Chicago data center, as well as the growing ecosystem of carriers and service providers that make up the Ethernet Exchange. We plan to leverage that community of providers to help us offer our Virtual Ethernet solution to both Tier 2 and Tier 3 carriers, enabling us to cost-effectively expand our service area.”

US Signal currently offers over 100 Points of Presence (PoPs) across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. US Signal’s Virtual Ethernet Service connects customer locations across long distances based on the Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) standard, enabling Ethernet Layer 2 traffic to be transported across an MPLS backbone. As a Telx Ethernet Exchange member, US Signal can now leverage secure, direct access to other Exchange members deployed in Chicago to expand its service reach and offer advanced Ethernet services to outlying areas.

“Telx welcomes US Signal to our high value community of global Ethernet service providers that comprise the Ethernet Exchange. These members can leverage our service to meet the demands of their carrier and enterprise customers, extending their network services reach,” said Glenn Calafati, vice president of interconnection services for Telx. “And with the Telx Ethernet Exchange customer Web portal, companies like US Signal can now quickly and easily connect with other Ethernet providers and carriers within their service locations, making the process even more intuitive and cost-effective.”

Telx and US Signal will be available for interviews March 20-23 live at the COMPTEL PLUS Spring 2011 event in Las Vegas. US Signal can be found at booth #208, and Telx is a sponsor of the event.
