Sidera Networks Delivers High Capacity Connectivity to Colleges and Universities in Bristol County, Massachusetts

New York – March 30, 2011 – Sidera Networks, www.sidera.net, the premier provider of tailored, high capacity communications services that ensure optimal business performance, today announced it has been selected by OSHEAN to extend its network into Bristol County, Massachusetts. This expansion will provide area colleges and universities with the dedicated fiber connectivity needed to support the growing bandwidth and speed demands of connected, dynamic campus environments.

OSHEAN is a nonprofit coalition of universities, hospitals and government agencies and is dedicated to providing technology solutions for its member institutions. In September 2010, as a part of the American Recovery & Revitalization Act (ARRA) Federal Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), OSHEAN was awarded a federal stimulus grant to bring high capacity networks to the schools, libraries, universities, community colleges, hospitals and government agencies of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts.

“We looked at various providers for this expansion. Sidera’s flexibility, out-of-the-box thinking and ability to respond quickly to our specific requirements made their team the ideal partner for our project,” said George Loftus, President and CEO of OSHEAN. “Our member institutions now have access to Sidera’s high-touch customer service and outstanding network expertise – exactly what these organizations need to enhance the speed and reliability of communication on their campuses and beyond.”

With dedicated high capacity fiber connectivity, members of OSHEAN in Bristol County, which include the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Stonehill College, Bridgewater State University and Wheaton College, will now able to connect at 10,000 Mbps – speeds critical for research applications and superior communications.

“We are excited that Sidera Networks was chosen to provide the much needed fiber-optic network in our region,” said Andrew Darling, Director of IT Infrastructure for University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.“Connectivity at dramatically improved speeds will enable the University to move vast amounts of research and supercomputing data from our School for Marine Sciences and Technology (SMAST), our Fairhaven Outreach Center as well as from the new University of Massachusetts School of Law at Dartmouth. Not only will this increase in connectivity be a game-changer for us today, but our ability to scale up bandwidth and enhance network performance over time will allow us to continuously enhance our capabilities.”

“This expansion is a great example of how our team is able to support unique, complex projects that require a resourceful and strategic network solution,” said Mike Sicoli, CEO of Sidera Networks. “Colleges and universities have fluctuating bandwidth needs, tight budgets and stringent requirements. Sidera’s high capacity fiber network is the ideal infrastructure to address these challenges, with superior flexibility, unique routes and scalability.”
