Huawei Marine Wins BDM Turnkey Supply Contract to Bridge Malaysia and Indonesia

[Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 4 March 2011] Huawei Marine Networks Co. Ltd. (“Huawei Marine”) announced today that it has won the bidding for the BDM (Batam-Dumai-Melaka) submarine cable project and will provide the end-to-end turnkey submarine system solution.

The BDM project will complete a cable system between Melaka, Malaysia and Dumai & Batam, Indonesia by Q4 of 2011. The completion of this new system will bring the leading submarine telecommunication technologies to Malaysia and Indonesia, providing exceptional bandwidth improvement for these two countries, and satisfying their soaring demand for international communications.

The BDM system will cross the Straits of Malacca, an area of extraordinarily busy shipping lanes and strong tidal currents. This area is predominantly shallow water with a maximum depth of only 60 meters. The cable route will have 8 pipeline and sea-cable crossings in a relatively short distance. Huawei Marine will carry out the installation in this busy and complex environment, showcasing its delivery and installation capabilities.
