Crytek GmbH Selects Level 3 to Support its Website Content Delivery

Game Development Company Selects Level 3 for CDN and High-Speed IP

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced it has been selected by Crytek GmbH, one of the world’s leading independent development studios for interactive entertainment, to provide content delivery network (CDN) services as well as high-speed IP (HSIP) to support the company’s website content delivery needs.

“Our mission at Crytek is to create exceptionally high-quality games, and delivering an unparalleled gamer experience is fundamental to that mission,” said Faruk Yerli, managing director at Crytek. “We believe that level of experience should extend to our websites, and with the scalability and flexibility of services Level 3 offers, we’re better able to do that.”

Level 3’s HSIP and CDN services are supporting Crytek’s network of websites, including the company’s corporate site and microsites for individual games. The Germany-based studio’s library of games currently consists of a number of critically acclaimed titles, as well as the soon-to-be-launched Crysis® 2 (www.mycrysis.com), the newest installment of its multi-award winning first-person shooter (FPS) Crysis® series.

Level 3’s content delivery solutions allow gaming customers such as Crytek to choose the appropriate blend of IP and CDN distribution, uniquely tailored to their specific needs. This flexibility allows them to utilise Level 3 HSIP connectivity for delivery of dynamic game-related content to end-users, while at the same time leveraging Level 3’s CDN platform to deliver the more popular video, patches and other mission-critical rich media. The ability to leverage both IP and CDN content delivery on the Level 3 platform is designed to give customers higher and more responsive levels of performance for both dynamic and static content types.

“What differentiates Level 3 is our ability to provide customers like Crytek with more than just a single product or service,” said James Heard, president of European Markets at Level 3. “We’re able to work with them to tailor solutions that meet their needs, whatever they may be — whether it’s reliable high-speed Internet, a CDN that can handle traffic surges from flash crowds or even colocation or storage services. We have a full portfolio of services available to our gaming customers, and we strive to make it as efficient as possible to do business with us.”

The Level 3 network is trusted by some of the biggest names in the entertainment and media business to deliver major events and cannot-fail traffic to a global audience. The company’s services for the gaming industry are similarly designed to quickly and reliably deliver high-quality online content to gamers worldwide, allowing developers and publishers to spend more time designing and developing the best games possible and less time thinking about how to deliver them online.
