Atlanta (February 15, 2011)
Key Highlights:

  • Maximizes economic value of customer data center infrastructure deployments by providing the ability to scale projected power and space commitments
  • Provides flexibility in managing power commitment to support transitional applications, technology refresh and business need changes
  • Offers enterprise customers of QTS Custom Data Center Services cost savings opportunities associated by improving ability to match infrastructure utilized with business needs over time

QTS (Quality Technology Services), one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing privately-held providers of data center facilities and managed services, today announced that it will offer Custom Data Center Services clients two new service options, PowerBank™ and PowerFlex™, both of which are the first of their kind in the data center industry.

The new products provide clients added financial and contractual flexibility for power and space by leveraging the scale, design and flexibility of QTS data centers. With PowerBank and PowerFlex, large enterprises with material custom data center needs requiring between 500KW and 5MW+ will benefit from the ability to proactively manage their footprint during their contract term.

Traditionally, when buying data center space, a long-term lease with a large power and space commitment is required that cannot be modified during the contract period. These arrangements typically result in clients paying for space and power that they will never use. PowerBank offers clients the opportunity to contract for large amounts of power and space, and still have options to scale back footprint and spend to better align in the event of unforeseen business changes. This mitigates risk in forecasting long-term power and space requirements.

“PowerBank will revolutionize the way clients purchase data center services by breaking the traditional contract model and offering customers the flexibility they really need,” said Tesh Durvasula, chief marketing and business officer at QTS.

In addition to PowerBank, QTS has also created PowerFlex. An industry first, PowerFlex provides customers the ability to adjust power commitment within a 500KW range over shorter time frames.

“At QTS, we often see clients who want a flexible contract structure to address unpredictable or fluctuating long term power and space requirements. With PowerBank and PowerFlex, clients can effectively manage and align power needs with business needs,” added Durvasula. “Given the size and scope of our data centers, QTS can quickly and easily accommodate our clients need to expand or reduce their footprint.”

Recently, a global consulting client chose QTS to provide a Custom Data Center solution based on the flexibility that PowerBank and PowerFlex provide. Under the arrangement the client can manage their power requirement increases in existing space from 500KW to 2MW during their contract term. They also have the ability to reduce power requirements, if necessary. This allows the client to scale footprint up or down to support transitional applications and development initiatives, thereby benefitting from cost savings associated with potential power and space reductions from equipment refresh or data center consolidations.
