Huawei Deploys NGBSS Solution for Cell C in South Africa

[Barcelona, Spain, 16 February 2011] Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced the live deployment of its NGBSS solution for Cell C in South Africa. With the implementation of Huawei’s state-of-the-art NGBSS solution, Cell C will be able to focus its resources on rolling out and delivering compelling services and experiences for its customers.

“The live deployment of Huawei’s NGBSS solution represents a key milestone in Cell C and Huawei’s strong partnership,” said Dr. Haiping Che, CTO and Vice President of Huawei Software. “We are committed to the continued support of Cell C’s strategic transformation with our leading edge solutions, customer-centric approach, and advanced deployment methodology.”

Huawei, as Cell C’s strategic partner, understands the business challenges the company faces in an increasingly competitive market that is driven by service convergence and rising customer sophistication. By leveraging our extensive telecommunications and IT expertise and in-depth benchmarking analyses of Cell C’s current business and operations, Huawei has supported Cell C’s business and strategic transformation through the delivery of an end-to-end NGBSS solution. The solution has been implemented based on the application of industry best practices including customer relationship management (CRM), IP contact centre (IPCC), convergent billing system (CBS), partner relationship management (PRM), and mediation and provisioning.

The NGBSS solution provides Cell C with the capabilities to generate accurate and real-time usage data for its postpaid, prepaid and hybrid services and offer a single bill for all services. This enables Cell C to launch innovative and unique products and services to the market, reduce time to market for new products and more importantly address issues previously experienced by customers around billing.

“The entire switch-over to the new system took 18 hours. You just have to look at some of our competitors to see the length of time it has taken them to replace a billing system,” says Lars P. Reichelt, CEO of Cell C. “With our partner Huawei we replaced three systems in one go. In addition, all existing products, services and customers had to be migrated from our legacy system onto the new system. The speed at which this was done is very unique and something that you usually only see with a start-ups”

Reichelt further added that nothing of this scale and sort has ever been done in such a short timeframe anywhere in the world, and this successful cutover was largely due to an incredible team effort and will to make it happen by Huawei and Cell C.
