BTI Systems Enters Technology Agreement with PeerApp to Improve Delivery of Over-the-Top Services

Updated WideCast™ Portfolio Manages Content Flood to Improve Internet Video and Subscriber Quality of Experience

Ottawa — Wednesday, February 2, 2011 // BTI Systems, the company that redefines metro service delivery, today announced it has entered into an agreement with PeerApp, the leading provider of Transparent Internet Caching and content delivery platforms, to manage the flood of content streaming onto access networks. With this agreement, BTI Systems can maximize the effectiveness of its transparent caching solution within its WideCast platform, including the ability to accelerate the delivery of Flash video, YouTube, Facebook video and other Over-the-Top Internet content for network operators and their subscribers.

The growth of popular video protocols like Flash and adaptive bitrate solutions like Microsoft Silverlight are simultaneously creating new revenue opportunities while also placing unprecedented stress on access networks. Service providers can tackle this exponential growth by caching popular content closer to the edge and reduce their bandwidth growth curve by up to 60%. WideCast uses transparent caching to increase the resolution and performance of video delivery to the consumer while dramatically reducing the “re-streaming” of large files across both access and peering networks — dramatically improving quality and attracting new subscribers while shrinking service provider transit costs and containing exploding bandwidth growth rates.

“BTI Systems and PeerApp are working together to ensure that Internet video and content services are supported with the latest advances in Transparent Caching and delivery technologies,” said Rich Blatt, VP of Strategic Alliances for PeerApp. “By ensuring popular content can be cached closer to subscribers, we allow service providers to maximize end-user QoE and re-gain control on CapEx and OpEx expenditures associated with this exploding traffic growth.”

“This announcement further extends service providers’ ability to intelligently distribute content at the edge of the network and deliver powerful media and entertainment experiences across broadband networks direct to consumers,” said Gary Southwell, CTO, BTI Systems. “WideCast provides the mechanism to more efficiently distribute content and enables service providers to significantly lower costs, accelerate content service delivery and increase the value that can be realized with streaming media.”

The WideCast portfolio allows access providers to deliver a high-quality user experience without impacting the relationship between content owner and consumer. The solution transparently improves broadband Internet service delivery without violating the constructs of net neutrality. WideCast is the first integrated, network-ready solution for content caching that integrates L2 Ethernet upgrades, L4 application routing and transparent caching in a compact 4RU solution.

Introduced last fall, the WideCast portfolio makes the access provider network smarter by distributing video and other content to the network edge, closer to the subscriber, delivering a high-quality online viewing experience. WideCast represents the evolution of metro services by addressing service providers’ need for managing rapid-growth content delivery while providing the capability to further monetize Over-The-Top content growth in partnership with content providers.
