Zayo Announces Network Expansion in Memphis and Northern Mississippi

Fiber-to-the-tower deployment will support higher capacity Ethernet

LOUISVILLE, Colo.– December 9, 2010 – Zayo Group (“Zayo”), a provider of bandwidth infrastructure and carrier neutral colocation services, announced today the augmentation and extension of its Memphis fiber-to-the-tower (FTT) network into Northern Mississippi.

Zayo will be upgrading its current fiber to the tower network in Memphis and extending the network into Northern Mississippi to towns such as Southaven and Olive Branch.  The network upgrade is to support higher capacity Ethernet services in order to meet customer needs.  This deployment adds 34 new cell sites to the region and brings the number of on-net buildings in Tennessee and Mississippi to 493.

“Zayo’s focus is to deliver simple bandwidth infrastructure solutions to enable businesses the connectivity they require,” stated David Howson, President of Zayo Bandwidth. “We are fortunate to already support a variety of carrier, wireless and enterprise customers in Memphis and are looking forward to leveraging our network to offer these solutions to the local businesses and enterprises in Northern Mississippi.”

One local business who will leverage the network expansion is Northcentral Mississippi Electric Power Association (http://www.northcentralepa.com/) who recently contracted with Zayo to deliver connectivity to their new corporate headquarters.

Zayo’s presence in the region has been steadily expanding since the 2007 purchase of Memphis Networx, a provider of bandwidth infrastructure services over an extensive metropolitan fiber network.  In the past several months, Zayo has acquired two companies – AGL Networks and American Fiber Systems – which significantly expanded Zayo’s network presence in the region, specifically in Nashville and Atlanta.  Zayo recently announced the successful deployment of the latest generation of high speed, fiber based Ethernet services for its Memphis customers.  In addition, zColo, Zayo’s network neutral colocation business unit, recently announced the opening of the Cummins Station colocation facility in Nashville.
