nTelos Wireless Offers Free Text Messaging During Holidays

Helping customers to stay in touch with friends and family during the holidays

WAYNESBORO, VA – nTelos Wireless is in the business of building community and is in the mood to give this holiday season by offering free text messaging (SMS) to all of its customers.

The Waynesboro-based provider of dependable nationwide 3G wireless services today announced that all of its customers will be able to send and receive FREE text messages on the following holidays:

  • Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 25
  • Hanukkah – Thursday, December 2
  • Christmas Eve – Friday, December 24
  • Christmas Day – Saturday, December 25
  • New Year’s Eve – Friday, December 31
  • New Year’s Day – Saturday, December 1

“Being a high quality local service provider gives us the option to offer our customers special benefits that can make a difference in their lives,” said Conrad Hunter, president of nTelos Wireless. “We realize the value of communicating with friends and family during these special days and wanted to give our customers the opportunity to use our technology to do just that.”

Daily, nTelos processes millions of text messages on behalf of its growing customer base. The company is notifying customers of the offer via text messaging, bill messages, information on its Website, and social media tools. Text messaging rates are 20 cents per message unless purchased as an unlimited plan ($9.99 monthly) or via text and data packages.

In the United States, text messaging is a popular form of communication; as reported by CTIA in December 2009, 286 million U.S. subscribers sent 152.7 billion text messages per month, for an average of 534 messages per subscriber per month. The Pew Research Center found in May 2010 that 72 percent of U.S. adult cell phone users send and receive text messages.

Text messaging was first used in December 1992, when Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old test engineer for Sema Group (now Airwide Solutions) used a personal computer to send the text message “Merry Christmas” to the phone of Richard Jarvis.
