XO Communications’ Heather Burnett Gold Named One of the Washington Business Journal’s 2010 “Women Who Mean Business”

HERNDON, VA – October 15, 2010 – XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) today announced that Heather Burnett Gold, senior vice president of external affairs at XO Communications, is a recipient of the Washington Business Journal’s 2010 “Women Who Mean Business” award. This prestigious award honors the 25 most influential Washington D.C.-area women who have made a positive impact on their companies, industries and local communities.

As senior vice president of external affairs, Gold plays a key role in shaping XO’s regulatory affairs strategy and has been an active voice lobbying for industry reform on a variety of issues. Through her efforts, Gold is helping to ensure a vibrant, innovative and competitive telecommunications industry.

Most recently, Gold successfully lobbied the FCC to preserve and boost market competition for XO and all telecommunication companies by introducing forbearance reform measures. She has also been at the forefront of the national debate on net neutrality and broadband access reclassification, measures XO sees as critical to fostering innovation within the industry and to ensuring broadband availability for all consumers.

“Throughout her 25 year career in telecommunications, Heather has charted an inspiring course for women in our industry,” said Carl Grivner, chief executive officer of XO Communications. “As a vital member of XO’s senior leadership team, her dedication and passion is evident in all that she does. We applaud her for this outstanding achievement.”

Beyond her professional achievements, Gold is a civic and philanthropic leader within the greater Washington, D.C. area. For several years, Gold has served on the Board of Directors for LEAD VIRGINIA, a non-profit organization that strives to create a nonpartisan network of informed, active leaders with a commitment to improving the quality of life in the commonwealth. Gold also serves on the Board of Trustees and is actively involved with Capital Hospice, a non-profit, community-based organization providing medical, emotional and spiritual care for patients nearing the end of their lives.

Gold and the other recipients of the “Women Who Mean Business” award will be honored at the seventh-annual “Women Who Mean Business” awards dinner on November 18 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D.C.
