New low latency optical transport services to Toronto Canada

First Communications launches low latency transport route between New York City and Toronto Canada.

Akron, Ohio, October 25, 2010 – First Communications today announces that it is now delivering international transport between Newark/New York and Toronto Canada. The new network route deployed by First Communications runs north through Binghamton and Buffalo on a recently deployed route that is providing carrier and financial customers both extremely low latency and route diversity. Extending this route will enable First Communications to offer 1G, 2.5G, 10G and 40G Optical Wave Transport to Toronto.

“Offering international connectivity to Toronto is a logical extension to the network route recently deployed to Buffalo NY,” said Rick Poore, President of First Communications’ First Telecom Services division. “This unique route is significantly shorter than other carriers’ networks which allows us to offer both speed and reliability.

Today’s announcement is another indication of First Communications’ commitment to developing a state of the art optical transport network that meets the critical needs of our customers located throughout the Midwest and Mid Atlantic region. Within the past year First Communications has lit over 1,500 route miles of fiber between Chicago IL, New York NY, and Buffalo NY, and is extending into Philadelphia PA, Baltimore, MD, Washington DC and Ashburn VA.

“We are very pleased with the progress we have made to date on the deployment of our transport network,” said Ray Hexamer, Chief Executive Officer of First Communications. We continue to see increased demand for transport services within the market as we continue to deploy or optical transport network across our operating territory.”
