Scottish Prison Service Frees Costs With Global Crossing Telephony Solution

London, UK. — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced it has implemented caller pre-select and wholesale line rental services for the Scottish Prison Service (SPS).

Under the terms of the two-year deal, Global Crossing will provide the telephony lines and usage for all prisons in Scotland, managing 438 lines for inmates across the agency’s 15 sites.  SPS has the option of extending this contract.

Global Crossing was chosen as the preferred supplier after the Scottish Prison Service put the services out to tender.  Global Crossing displaced the incumbent provider based on the company’s understanding of SPS’s needs, its customer support infrastructure and cost savings it would deliver to the prisoner telephony provision.Global Crossing engaged in a four month deployment project to ensure the smooth transfer of lines and call usage. “We were highly impressed by the quality of Global Crossing’s bid,” explained Alan Howarth, assistant director, Performance and Assurance, Prison Directorate.  “The company clearly understood our aims and objectives.  Each stage of the project was delivered on time, and the level of support we received throughout was second to none.” Ted Higase, managing director, EMEA, Global Crossing, commented on the contract win: “We understand the challenges public sector organisations face and are committed to providing superior service and value across our entire product portfolio.  With Global Crossing’s solutions, we can provide a reliable, flexible service while helping our customer’s manage their long-term operating costs.”
