FULDA, Minn – CenturyLink (Minnesota) recently donated $3,000 to Junior Achievement (JA) of Murray County. The funds will go toward expanding the program in more high school classrooms, some of which will receive the added online program, Finance Park.
JA Finance Park is a month-long economics education program that introduces personal financial planning and career exploration. It is designed to be taught to middle grade and high school students by classroom teachers. At the culmination of this program, students visit JA Finance Park to put into practice what they’ve learned about economic options and the principles of budgeting. Assisted by their teachers and a staff of trained volunteers, they have the opportunity to actually develop and commit to a personal budget.
“This is prime opportunity for us as Finance Park is highly demanded among classrooms, but for financial reasons is not readily available,” said Area Operations Manager Mark Tupper. “It will really help local students to visualize their futures when it comes to budgeting, investing, expenses and taxes.”
The Junior Achievement program is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.
These programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. In turn, students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.
