Allied Fiber Launches the Dark Fiber Community

Created in Response to Growing Demand, the Allied Fiber Dark Fiber Community is a Resource for All Types of Network Operators to Build and Support Broadband Networks Efficiently and Cost Effectively

NEW YORK, New York September 13, 2010 Allied Fiber, the company constructing an integrated dark fiber, neutral colocation and wireless tower nationwide network, announces today its launch of the Dark Fiber Community. The Dark Fiber Community, hosted on TMCNet, is a single resource for those seeking to build new or extend existing fiber and wireless transport networks. Major, middle and minor markets, wireless towers and data centers all require a range of network investment. They all need to gain access to major Internet interconnection and peering points. The Dark Fiber Community serves as a portal for access to the entire industry. It connects buyers to sellers of these necessary network elements including communications equipment providers, dark fiber manufacturers, data center and tower builders as well as a variety of financing sources for these elements.

Considered an online directory for network operators, the Dark Fiber Community provides information and contact details for industry-leading vendors as well as the opportunity to plan one-on-one meetings with those suppliers anywhere in the world. This enhances business opportunities for both network operators and vendors alike. In addition, TMCNet editorial writers contribute original content to the community based on important news and announcements affecting the Dark Fiber Community – including vendors and network operators. Therefore, community members’ benefit from additional PR coverage and increased Search Engine Optimization rankings. TMCNet’s website currently receives nearly 50 million page views by as many as 2 million unique visitors every month.

“We are proud to work with Allied Fiber to offer a new kind of industry community,” states Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC. “All Dark Fiber Community members will receive important exposure on TMCNet.com, the world’s largest communications and technology website. Allied Fiber is leveraging our global online community product and turning it into a resource for network buyers to connect with industry-proven seller contacts. We are honored to be working with Allied Fiber in this new and much-needed online tool.”

Allied Fiber created the Dark Fiber Community in response to the rising demands for its products and services from network operators of all types. The greatest surge in demand has been from companies seeking to build new and extend existing networks. These network operators currently have no direct access to a pool of suppliers. The Dark Fiber Community will facilitate the necessary relationships for growth and the evolution of the physical network layer in the United States. This networking is essential in order to increase broadband speeds and penetration rates.

The industry response to the Dark Fiber Community has been very strong as it fills a need for suppliers to find educated and capable buyers. The organizations that have joined Allied Fiber’s Dark Fiber Community thus far include: ADVA Optical Networking, Avvio Networks, Calix, Ciena, Cisco, Corning, Ekinops, Force10, Gigabeam, Henkels & McCoy, Inc., i3 Group, Infinera, Keenwire Green Technologies, LLC, Integration Partners, LightSpeed, Michels, Nokia Siemens Networks, Optelian, Powder River Development, Rubicon, SkyFiber, SynchroNet, Tellabs, Thermo Credit, XKL, and XO Communications Services, Inc. with more joining each week.

“This is an exciting new resource that not only matches network buyers with sellers,” states Brian Savory, Director of Business Development at ADVA Optical Networking, “but also acts as an educational platform for organizations that are looking to build their own networks. ADVA Optical Networking is pleased to help build the knowledge base of this community by providing relevant, useful information and technical expertise. The Dark Fiber Community is the type of free neutral environment which will stimulate continued open discussion and drive industry growth.”

The Dark Fiber Community’s focus is about raising the awareness of network-neutral, physical layer models that treat telecom fiber, colocation and tower infrastructure as real estate. The integrated model of parallel long-haul and short-haul fiber with network-neutral colocation facilities provides physical access to dark fiber and major carrier transport services. Wireless backhaul, rural carriers, MSOs and community networks can access these fiber systems within colocation facilities. This model also serves as new revenue opportunities for both the IXCs as well as local carriers.

“We created the Dark Fiber Community in response to the large number of interested organizations that had questions concerning network development,” states Hunter Newby, the CEO of Allied Fiber. “The questions range from ‘Which equipment vendor should we use for DWDM?’ to ‘Do you know anyone that finances Fiber-to-the-Tower builds on contracts and/or cash flow?’ The Dark Fiber Community brings together those with questions to those with answers and helps to facilitate network growth.”

The Dark Fiber Community features industry news, original video interviews with leading industry experts, relevant whitepapers and access to the online one-on-one meeting system, the Dark Fiber Community DealCenter. These tools all serve to further educate the network buyer marketplace and to offer invaluable contacts to credible network suppliers.

Membership to the Dark Fiber Community is free. To become a member, please email pr@jaymiescotto.com. To view the Dark Fiber Community, visit http://dark-fiber.tmcnet.com.
