FIVE LOCAL STUDENTS AWARDED FAIRPOINT SCHOLARSHIPS

$800 Each to Outstanding Students

WESTFIELD, NY (July, 2, 2010) – FairPoint Communications in Westfield today announcedfive area students, one from each of the five area school districts in its service territory, havebeen selected to receive scholarships in the amount of $800 each from FairPointCommunications.

This year’s winners are: Mark A. Belcher (Brocton), Justin Smith (Chautauqua Lake), Christian R. Swoger (Ripley), Alanna Motherwell (Sherman) and Leeann Freeman (Westfield).

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, community involvement,leadership, and school activities such as music, sports or clubs. Applicants must have an 85 orabove grade point average and a strong record in all of these areas.

Through its corporate community relations initiatives, FairPoint contributed more than$950,000 in 2009 to civic and charitable organizations and its employees provided more than45,000 hours of volunteer time in communities across the United States.
