SingTel selects ADVA Optical Networking to provide backbone for Managed WDM Service

ADVA FSP 3000 delivers innovative technology for service backbone on which today’s most advanced services are offered

June 15, 2010.

ADVA Optical Networking today announced that Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) has appointed ADVA Optical Networking as a vendor for its high-speed managed metropolitan optical network service known as GigaWaveLite (GWL). Boasting an optical-fiber backbone for high-capacity Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) connectivity, SingTel’s GWL service enables the delivery of real-time applications and the transmission of data, voice, video and multimedia services.

GigaWaveLite is a managed high-speed, point-to-point optical service for enterprise customers needing to connect two or more sites. It is a cost-effective solution that incorporates state-of-the-art WDM technology so that an enterprise’s mission-critical data remains secure throughout transport at speeds of up to 10Gbit/s. SingTel offers its GWL service to the banking, finance, healthcare, education, manufacturing and logistics industries, as well as to media content and other information technology solution providers.

“We selected ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 3000 as one of our platforms for this critical, fast-growing service because of its ability to support ultra-low latency and its single-fiber working technology,” stated Lim Ming Kiat, Director of Data Network and Hosting Engineering at SingTel. “We offer our customers some of the industry’s most rigorous Service Level Agreements (SLAs); our network must therefore deliver the most advanced connectivity services that consistently perform at the highest levels.”

ADVA Optical Networking’s WDM technology fulfils the growing demand for ultra-high bandwidth and low-latency capacity and is particularly suited to support the most advanced disaster recovery, Storage Area Network (SAN) and Local Area Network (LAN)-to-LAN connectivity services. The FSP 3000 supports a range of data center protocols, including multiple Fibre Channel line speeds, 10Gigabit Ethernet, FICON, ESCON and others, and has been qualified interoperable with most of the industry’s major storage solution vendors.

“SingTel has a reputation for delivering the best services available, and so the company naturally sought to deploy a versatile high-capacity backbone for its GWL solution,” confirmed Lucas Hsu, ADVA Optical Networking’s president for Asia-Pacific. “In a tough competition with other world-class vendors, ADVA Optical Networking’s long and successful history with enterprise solutions proved its ability to enable one of the region’s strongest managed enterprise services networks. The FSP 3000 provides SingTel a solid foundation for this network and for maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction.”
