Kalicanthus Entertainment Selects Level 3 To Support Craft of Gods Launch

Level 3 to Provide Content Delivery, Caching, Download and Storage Services for Highly-Anticipated Online Game

LONDON, June 03, 2010

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:  LVLT) today announced it is working with Milan, Italy-based online game publisher Kalicanthus Entertainment to provide content delivery network (CDN) services, caching, download and storage to support the publisher’s newest title, Craft of Gods, a 3D Fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Since 2006, Kalicanthus has provided massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) to customers in Europe and beyond. Under the terms of the contract, Level 3’s services are supporting the publisher’s Craft of Gods title, which launched on 27 May. The game was developed by a company called Cyberdemons and published by Kalicanthus.

“All Kalicanthus game titles can be played in a variety of languages, so our business is essentially designed to foster compelling game-play on a large, international scale,” said Fabrizio Calì, CEO of Kalicanthus. ”That means we need a CDN that can easily manage massive waves of traffic from players around the world, and we knew Level 3’s network was designed to do just that.”

Kalicanthus is one of a number of online game publishers who trust Level 3’s highly-scalable global platform to deliver game downloads, patches and updates to players around the world. From content capture to consumption, Level 3 works with game developers and publishers to tailor solutions – from intelligent traffic management to content analytics to support for major launches – to meet their specific needs.

“Level 3 understands that for customers like Kalicanthus, speed and reliability in a CDN are critical to player engagement and retention – their players don’t want to sit through slow downloads in the middle of game play,” said James Heard, president of European Markets at Level 3.”Leveraging our international IP backbone, Level 3’s services for the online game community are built to readily meet that demand, whether 70 or 700,000 people are playing at once.”
