ADVA Optical Networking delivers high-capacity network upgrade for Televõrgu

FSP 3000 platform delivers ROADM technology to Estonian carrier, ensuring highest flexibility and increased operational capability

June 8, 2010.

To enable more high-capacity services and flexibility across its entire network, Estonia’s Televõrgu has deployed ADVA Optical Networking’s FSP 3000 platform with Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexing (ROADM) capability. The network spans more than 1,000km and is now transporting traffic at speeds of 10Gbit/s.

Televõrgu has grown from an alternative service provider in Estonia into the dominant trunking operator in Estonia and the Baltic nations. In its role as a carriers’ carrier and provider of bandwidth and other communications services, Televõrgu required a network that would enable it to quickly provision services on-demand. Uptime is also a key component to Televõrgu’s high-quality service offering, making reliability and network restoration key aspects of the solution.

“We chose ADVA Optical Networking because it offered us the flexibility we needed at a price point that enables us to deliver some of the most advanced and affordable services in the region,” said Kaida Kaeval, transmission networks specialist at Televõrgu. “The ROADM provides the ability to simplify our operations infrastructure and reduce related costs. At the same time, the FSP 3000 platform delivers better utilization of our fiber plant so that we can now offer an entirely new set of products and services to our customer base, which keeps us extremely competitive. The reliability and scalability of our advanced service portfolio are enabled by ADVA Optical Networking technology.”

Televõrgu delivers services to both large enterprise and smaller residential customers. In-country, the carrier’s service offering ranges from basic telephony, third-generation mobile services and complex Ethernet-based business services that depend on strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Beyond Estonia, Televõrgu offers communications and information technologyabased services to operators across the Baltic nations, southern Europe, Scandinavia and Russia through its participation in the Baltic Optical Network (BON). In addition, through its participation in BON, Televõrgu cooperates with telecommunications companies from other European countries in the For Connecting Europe (4cE) alliance, which offers a “one-stop-shopping” principle for high-capacity data and voice communications services across the broad service area.

“A rapidly growing customer base with a hunger for bandwidth and advanced services requires Televõrgu to constantly innovate. This carrier’s goals for its customers are to deliver innovative and reliable products of the highest quality, which our platform enables. The ADVA FSP 3000 provides Televõrgu a basis from which it can deliver services that help it to stand out from its competition in a crowded and competitive marketplace. We look forward to further work with this innovative customer,” stated Magnus Grenfeldt, ADVA Optical Networking’s director of sales, Nordics and Baltics.
