Xtera Communications Introduces New DWDM Solution for Regional Repeatered Submarine Systems

March 29, 2010

ALLEN, TEXAS – (March  30, 2010) – Xtera Communications, Inc., a leading global provider of optical and IP networking solutions, today announced the Nu-Wave XLR, a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE) for regional repeatered submarine applications. Available today, the Nu-Wave XLR is optimized for the upgrade of medium-haul repeatered submarine systems.

“With the rising demand for bandwidth, service providers need to respond quickly to upgrade their existing submarine cables. Nu-Wave XLR offers a compact, cost-effective solution,” said Jon Hopper, president and chief executive officer of Xtera.  “It’s ideal for upgrades of regional repeatered submarine systems. We received very positive feedback from customers which immediately resulted in several orders for the Nu-Wave XLR.”  The Nu-Wave XLR is 100G ready and is designed to extend the life of repeatered submarine networks, rapidly adding more capacity to existing systems.

Leveraging proven technologies from both Xtera’s repeaterless Nu-Wave XLS and the long-haul repeatered NXT solutions, the Nu-Wave XLR is based on the high capacity Nu-Wave XLS repeaterless terminal and offers line monitoring and channel loading capabilities ported from the NXT SLTE.  Covering distances from 500 km to 3,000 km, the Nu-Wave XLR bridges Xtera’s repeaterless and repeatered submarine product portfolio and completes Xtera’s line of submarine communication solutions. In its standard configuration, Nu-Wave XLR supports 60 channels at 10 Gbit/s, 40 Gbit/s, or any mix thereof. Configurations offering higher capacity or spanning longer distances are also available. The Nu-Wave XLR is managed by the Nu-Wave EMS/NMS, the Network Management System which provides end-to-end management across the Xtera family of products.
