Interxion Plans Expansion at Its Amsterdam Data Centre, AMS 5

Amsterdam, March 24th, 2010 – Interxion, a leading European provider of carrier-neutral data centres, today announced the expansion of its Amsterdam, AMS 5 facility. The project, which is due for completion in August 2010, will see a further 1100m2 of high-density power capacity added to the site. The demand for high-quality colocation facilities in Amsterdam has meant that this will be the third time Interxion has expanded in the area in an 18-month period.

The new data centre space will offer 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling, as well as an advanced alarm and monitoring systems, all of which is supported by the latest high-density power configurations. As with the original site, all of the power for the new expansion will come from renewable resources, such as wind, biomass, or hydro generation. Furthermore, the centre has been designed using Interxion’s energy-efficient modular architecture, with free cooling and maximum-efficiency components as standard.

Interxion’s AMS 5 facility and the new expansion have also recently been AMS-IX certified, making it the first data centre in The Netherlands to receive the accreditation.

“Amsterdam is a key market for Interxion, and we are continuously seeing an increase in demand from customers to colocate to our highly resilient, low-latency colocation facilities. The occupancy level in the current phase of the AMS 5 data centre is very high, and we are already experiencing strong demand for the additional expansion space, specifically from the enterprise and digital media sectors,” said Michel van den Assem, Managing Director, Interxion Netherlands.
