CMI Chooses Global Crossing To Provide Worldwide Communications

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2010

Brussels, Belgium — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced it has won a three-year contract to supply and manage global telecommunications for Cockerill Maintenance & Ingénierie (CMI), a Belgian-based international equipment supplier active in energy, defence and industry markets.

Global Crossing replaces several different suppliers as the company looks to engage a single provider in a bid to cut costs, improve efficiency and streamline operations across the organisation. The consolidated network will be fully managed by Global Crossing, easing the administrative burden of managing services from multiple providers.

Global Crossing will supply a global managed Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) to boost collaboration and productivity across CMI’s sites worldwide. New fibre optic cables have already been introduced to improve connectivity. Through Global Crossing’s WAN Ethernet capabilities, CMI aims to work more closely with its staff in India, where its offices had previously suffered from low latency and bandwidth speeds.

CMI has praised the quality of service it already is receiving from Global Crossing. With the new systems, traffic in the network can be prioritised to enable seamless video conferencing, while the company also can benefit from fast and reliable connectivity to the Internet through a Tier 1 carrier.

Denis Debroux, chief information officer at CMI, welcomed the steps to improve productivity across the organization: “CMI is a global entity, so constant communication across all sites is an essential part of our daily routine. However, despite considerable investment, previous levels of connectivity were not sufficient. CMI is extremely advanced when it comes to ITC and staff are used to using various forms of communication – including audio, video, VoIP and collaboration.”

“We understand the challenges companies face when they operate across multiple sites and different geographies,” said Ted Higase, managing director, EMEA, Global Crossing. “With Global Crossing’s IP VPN offering flexible bandwidth and  providing high speed Internet access, those based in remote locations benefit from the same access to applications and resources as those at headquarters.”

The project has been broken down into two phases. The first phase, due for completion in May 2010, will involve managing IP VPN across 16 sites in Belgium, France, Germany and the US. Phase two will add new sites to the project, and will also see the introduction of outbound VoIP.

Global Crossing was selected over several major European competitors, including the incumbent provider. Global Crossing is a certified SIP Trunking provider, and is fully in line with CMI’s Microsoft strategy. Its flexible and tailored approach offered CMI a solution that directly corresponds to the needs of the organisation, fulfilling the current business objectives while also allowing room for future growth and development.

Available since 2001, Global Crossing’s IP VPN service provides one of the highest performing and most versatile network solutions currently available, delivering true global reach, scalable connectivity, robust security, guaranteed quality of service, multiple access options, and flexible billing options. The service delivers appropriate levels of latency, jitter and packet loss to ensure the successful concurrent handling of multiple types of traffic, especially voice and video. It is backed by comprehensive service-level agreements (SLAs) covering the overall performance of the service, and on-line access to real-time and historical service-performance reports.
