American Fiber Systems Gives Carson City Long-Awaited High Bandwidth Connectivity Choice

Carson City, Nev. – February 1, 2010–American Fiber Systems (AFS) announced today that it has completed its fiber optic network expansion into Carson City, Nev., to respond to the sustained demand for high bandwidth connectivity from the State of Nevada and area enterprises. The expansion takes the AFS network footprint directly to the front door of all major State of Nevada facilities as well as key Carson City business locations.

Prior to AFS’s expansion, state offices and enterprise businesses had few telecommunications options other than the incumbent phone or cable company for high bandwidth service. The new AFS metro network offers a full array of managed services, including Ethernet speeds from 10Mb to 10GB, as well as easily upgradeable bandwidth for businesses seeking ultra-reliable access to the Internet, a more reliable, higher capacity network, and high bandwidth data transport services.

The AFS Carson City network, comprised of 5,600 fiber miles, interconnects Carson City to AFS’s 7,300 fiber mile metro network in Reno. Via its Reno facilities, AFS also offers Carson City access to AFS’s long haul intercity network between Las Vegas and Reno, Nev.; Boise, Id.; and Salt Lake City, Utah. With the AFS expansion into Carson City, local businesses and government agencies can connect from Carson City to key metro locations in the Western Region.

“Based on our field research several years ago, we understand Carson City business owners’ need for high-quality, reliable and secure bandwidth – and for more choice in their telecommunications service,” said Rich Coyle, Senior Vice President, Operations, AFS. “We take tremendous pride in providing them this service, and in empowering state organizations, as well as casinos, medical facilities, and other enterprise businesses with safe, secure data transport.”

The Carson City route is the hub for AFS’s Nevada network in their efforts to bring businesses and state government agencies the high-cap connectivity they need.
