Global Crossing Gives Enterprises More Choice by Adding Juniper Networks to Managed Network Services Capabilities

Company Complements Managed Network Services with WAN Optimization Capability

FLORHAM PARK, N.J.
(NASDAQ-NMS:GLBC)

FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced it is giving its enterprise customers more flexibility and choice by adding Juniper Networks equipment to its Managed Network Services (MNS) portfolio. Specifically, Global Crossing MNS will now support Juniper Networks J Series Services Routers, M Series Multiservice Edge Routers, and SRX Series Services Gateways. Global Crossing also will enhance its MNS with Juniper Networks WXC Series Application Acceleration Platforms for WAN Optimization.

“Increasingly, businesses are looking for carriers to give them more ways to solve critical communication issues,” said Dave Carey, Global Crossing’s chief marketing officer. “By expanding our MNS offer to include Juniper Networks, we’re giving our customers a strong option for equipment sourced as part of their managed network solution. We’ve also chosen to partner with Juniper Networks to deliver WAN Optimization with the Juniper Networks WXC Series because it enables us to enhance our product offering with a best-in-class platform that provides customers with an end-to-end solution.”

“As a part of Global Crossing’s industry-leading managed network solutions portfolio, Juniper Networks is helping to improve the experience and economics of the network for their customers around the world,” said Kevin Hollenbach, Juniper Networks vice president service provider channel. “Together, Global Crossing and Juniper Networks can deliver without compromise the high-performing networking solutions enterprise customers are demanding.”

“Enterprises can use WAN Optimization Services to transport traffic across their networks more efficiently,” stated Brian Washburn, research director of network services at Current Analysis. “Increasing applications performance is especially attractive to multinational enterprises, so they can keep down their circuit costs in the world’s developing regions. WAN Optimization Services are a perfect fit for the spectrum of IP services that Global Crossing offers to international customers.”

Global Crossing MNS provide and manage the entire array of networking solutions for enterprises. These include design and engineering; equipment procurement; implementation management; equipment installation; operations management; proactive monitoring, and life-cycle management. As part of the Global Crossing MNS offer, the company also supports and sources other industry-leading router manufacturers.

WAN Optimization is used in tandem with MNS to accelerate a wide range of applications that enterprises access and transmit between locations on a daily basis to conduct critical business. WAN Optimization uses a compression and caching technology to eliminate redundant transmissions; as a result it increases the apparent speed at which data is transmitted. It also improves the performance of many application-specific protocols, such as TCP, HTTP, MAPI and CIFS, by optimizing the protocol interaction between end-points and minimizing the natural slowing effects of latency on such applications.

WAN Optimization also can improve productivity by loading mission-critical applications and rich content more quickly. It also may result in cost savings because WAN Optimization extracts more out of a network’s existing capabilities and eliminates the need for additional bandwidth where new or recurring requests for access and connectivity might occur. Because it accelerates real-time business-critical applications by prioritizing and allocating bandwidth, WAN Optimization also enables more efficient real-time collaboration and communications. Large amounts of data can be cached, allocating more bandwidth for voice and data applications. This is an important consideration as organizations explore ways to reduce travel expenses and to ensure that their platforms are reliable.
